Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic and public talker. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency a website that hosts videos and commentary analyzing gender representations in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American media critic and blog writer who has been awarded awards in her field, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency is a website to educate about female roles in pop culture, is run by Sarkeesian. She is committed to deconstructing stereotypes of women and the way they are portrayed in popular media. Furthermore, she seeks to educate people about the online abuse directed towards women as well as marginalized groups of society. Sarkeesian graduated with a master's degree in political and social thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is extremely sought-after and has given talks at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. At a young age Sarkeesian was interested in gender issues and feminist thought. As a student, in 2009, she founded the Feminist Frequency Website. The determined lady had planned to begin a web program that examined gender representations in video games and found herself at the center of an online harassment campaign. But the harassment did not dissuade her. She was only able to strengthen her position as a feminist journalist. To honor the numerous accomplishments she's made to feministism, she's awarded numerous prizes. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winning media critic and the author of Feminist Frequency an educational and non-profit organization focused on the representations of women within pop culture storylines.
